Self-compliance responsibilities under the WEEE Directive in Ireland

All producers and distributors of waste electrical and electronic equipment are required to comply with the waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) regulations.

If you are a producer of Electrical and Electronic Equipment (EEE) and are not a member of an approved compliance scheme (WEEE Ireland or ERP) you are required to self-comply in accordance with the WEEE Regulations. Self-compliance is particularly relevant to producers who primarily sell Business to Business (B2B).

There are two main requirements of self-compliance;

1. You must register as WEEE Compliant: http://www.weeeregister.ie

2. You must submit a waste management plan to the EPA in accordance with Article 24 of the WEEE Regulations. Download Waste Management Plan.doc

2a: Within the Waste Management Plan there is a requirement to nominate a licensed recycler to manager your (potential) B2B e-waste returns.

  • Partnering with WEEE Recycle is a cost effective way of managing this requirement.
  • There is no initial fee for partnering with WEEE Recycle.
  • We achieve over the required recovery and recycling rates for all WEEE categories.
  • Our collection and recycling charges are very competitive.
  • WEEE Recycle will fulfil your obligations within our transparent and traceable system.
